Daniel Mateo, Esq. is a partner in the Princeton office of Reed Smith LLP, which is a global law firm with more than 1,600 lawyers located in 23 offices around the world. At Reed Smith, Dan’s practice is focused on complex commercial litigation matters with a particular emphasis on the representation of clients in the life-sciences industry. His litigation experience is cross-disciplinary and extends to the transactional, regulatory and intellectual property issues that are essential to understanding the specialized needs of life sciences companies confronted with complex litigation.
Dan’s clients include branded and generic pharmaceutical companies, which he has helped with all types of litigation disputes including those involving pre-clinical and clinical product development, NDA and ANDA regulatory approval, successful product launch and commercialization, and product licensing, supply, collaboration and promotion. In addition to his specialized life sciences experience, Dan has defended a number of litigation actions arising out of allegations of workplace chemical exposure and allegedly defective consumer products and heavy equipment/machinery. A large part of Dan’s litigation practice also involves helping his clients plan for and navigate the complex area of E-Discovery, which is the process of identifying, preserving and collecting electronic evidence for use in a case.
Dan has been active in the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey for the past eight years. He has held various positions on the Board since 2004 and was elected President-Elect in 2010. In addition to his years of service to the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey, Dan has also been a leader in the Hispanic National Bar Association, most recently serving as the Chair of the Personnel Committee. Dan is also committed to furthering diversity in the legal profession as a whole and has therefore been a longtime member of Reed Smith’s diversity and inclusion initiative and serves as the Chair of the Diversity Committee for the Princeton, Philadelphia, and Wilmington offices. He is also the current Chair of the New Jersey Law Firm Group, which is a non-profit corporation committed to promoting the practice of law in New Jersey to diverse law students and advocating for increased inclusiveness and diversity in the New Jersey Bar.
Dan received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers College in New Brunswick, NJ and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia, PA. He grew up in Camden, New Jersey and the surrounding areas and is the son of a single mother who worked as a legal secretary for many years in Camden. He is also the proud father to his two daughters Briana and Isabella.
