Emilia Perez, Esq.

Emilia Perez, Esq. is an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the City of Newark Law Department, in the civil litigation section. Ms. Perez is responsible for providing legal counsel to the City of Newark, the Mayor, the fire and police departments, and all city employees, in connection with matters including but are not limited to, car accidents, slip and falls, wrongful death, § 1983 claims, and employment discrimination. Prior to joining the City of Newark, Emilia clerked for the Honorable Bradley Ferencz, J.S.C. for the 2007-2008 judicial term.
Emilia obtained her J.D. in 2007 from Seton Hall Law School. She served as the academic coordinator and later co-president of Latin American Law Students Association and as the regional student president of the Hispanic National Bar Association. Moreover, she was a member of the Black Law Students Association, the Asian Pacific Law Students Association, and many others. While in law school, she was selected as a member of the Civil Litigation Clinic. She also completed a judicial externship with the Hon. Jose Linares, U.S.D.J. Additionally, Ms. Perez interned for the Honorable F. Michael Giles, United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University.
Ms. Perez was appointed to the Seton Hall University School of Law Diversity Council where she served from 2009-2011. She is a member of the American Bar Association, National Hispanic Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and Latinas United for Political Empowerment.
