Louis Acevedo, Esq., has been the Deputy Public Defender in charge of the Bergen County Trial Regional Office since 1993, and is the first Latino in the history of the New Jersey Public Defender’s Office to occupy that position. Prior to serving in that position, Louis was appointed the First Assistant Deputy Public Defender in the Passaic County Trial Region of the Office of the Public Defender and worked in the New York City Police Department’s Advocate Office. Louis received his B.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. Prior to starting his legal career, Louis served in the United States Army. Louis is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Bergen County Bar Association, the Bergen County Speedy Trial Committee, the Bergen County Children in Court Advisory Committee and the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative Steering Committee. Louis served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Criminal Practice Committee during its 1994-1996 term.
