Managing Attorney, Prisoner Re-Entry Pro Bono Project

Job Description - Managing Attorney, Prisoner Re-Entry Pro Bono Project

Under the supervision of Assistant Dean for the Pro Bono and Public Interest Programs, the Managing Attorney will be responsible for the various activities of the Prisoner Re-Entry Project.  He or she may also assist with other related activities at the law school.  He or she will manage the project by recruiting, training (including development and distribution of training materials), supervising and evaluating students, by scheduling students for participation, by determining, with clinic faculty, which cases get referred to the law school’s Civil Practice Clinic, by handling a small caseload, by maintaining key relationships with court personnel and other service providers, by providing periodic reports to the courts, to the law school, to the bar association, and to others as required.  He or she will also  manage publicity for the project, recruit pro bono attorneys, maintain good relations with the court, the organized bar and other service providers, resolve issues with students and all other parties involved in the project, and other related duties as assigned.  He or she will also assist with budgeting, accounting and grant reporting under supervision of the Assistant Dean, and maintain accurate database and financial spreadsheets.

 
Education, Experience and Special Conditions

Requires law degree from accredited law school, plus a minimum of five years legal experience, including at least some civil practice experience.  Requires membership in New Jersey bar, or willingness to take the next available bar exam.  Requires computer literacy, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and data base (Microsoft office programs).  Prefer experience with and understanding of pro bono and/or public interest programs, some management experience with multiple goals.
