Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. is looking to hire a full-time Attorney to serve as our General Counsel

Location: The Attorney hired for this position will be required to work in our Philadelphia or Harrisburg Office.

YAP's Mission and Values: YAP is a non-profit community based organization that works with high-risk youth, young adults and their families in an effort to keep families together and to prevent placement in detention centers, prisons, psychiatric hospitals and residential facilities. Summary of the Position: General Counsel will guide YAP’s legal actions, reporting to the CEO.   

Specific Tasks Include:


  • Personally investigate and respond to employment practices liability claims against YAP (both those presenting discrimination as well as wage & hour issues).


  • Coordinate with outside counsel on other litigation matters.


  • Review all new YAP contracts and significant extensions.


  • Respond to subpoenas/document requests directed to YAP staff; help prepare staff to testify.


  • Advise YAP senior management on legal issues including those related to insurance (health and liability), other risk management issues, and other issues (e.g., possible merger/acquisitions)
  • Work with the Compliance Officer on certain investigations
  • Work with the HR Chief on personnel policies and compensation equity


  • Advise YAP Board of Directors on by-laws and legal questions.




Qualifications/Requirements:  J.D. plus current bar admission in PA.  Preferred to also be admitted in other states in which YAP has significant number of programs especially NJ and/or NY.   Significant experience in civil litigation, especially employment litigation (preferably both discrimination and wage & hour issues).  Judicial clerkships and/or law review are a plus.  Ability to produce legal briefs and analyses independently.  Position also requires reliable transportation and background checks to be completed. 

Salary of $80,000 to $100,000 is offered plus good benefits and a great work environment and a wonderful mission.
