Born to Puerto Rican parents, Ms. Castro is a native of New York and moved to Delaware in 1998. She is a graduate of the University at Buffalo and Buffalo State College, earning her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Latin American Studies and Legal Studies and her Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice. She attended Widener University School of Law, where she was on the Moot Court Honor Society and founded the Latin American Law Student Association.
Ms. Castro is the President and Managing Attorney of The Castro Firm, Inc., a minority and woman-owned law firm specializing in New Jersey and Delaware legal matters. Ms. Castro is admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, Federal District Court of Delaware, Delaware Supreme Court and New Jersey Supreme Court.
She is the Immediate Past Chairperson for the Multi-cultural Judges and Lawyers Section of the Delaware State Bar Association. She also serves as President of the Board of the Delaware Hispanic Bar Association and is Region 12 Trustee for the New Jersey Hispanic Bar Association, serving Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties.
Ms. Castro is honored to have been awarded the 2010 Champion of Independence Award by the Good Works Coalition; inducted into the Hispanic Hall of Fame at Delaware Technical and Community College in 2011; the Professional Hispanic of the Year Award in 2013 by the Latin American Community Center and the 2015 Board of Excellence Award by the United Way of Delaware. In October 2015, Ms. Castro was honored by the Hispanic Choice Awards in Philadelphia as the 2015 Trailblazer Business Person of the Year.
