The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a junior staff attorney for a role as an Assistant General Counsel II. The person in this role will work both independently and under the supervision of more senior lawyers in the Office of General Counsel in providing legal counsel to the organization on a wide variety of matters, including regulatory, corporate and dispute resolution matters.

This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel, Clinical Operations and requires three to five years of experience as an attorney with strong preference for experience in health care law.

In this role, success requires:

  • Strong research skills and the ability to analyze and synthesize complicated legal and business issues.
  • Ability to effectively operate in a competitive academic medical center setting with high standards and expectations.
  • Outstanding communication skills (written/verbal) and ability to understand and utilize indirect influence effectively.
  • Solid judgment and ability to assess the risks and benefits of various courses of action and develop thoughtful, practical approaches to challenging issues.
  • Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity and trust.

Job responsibilities include:

  • ·         Legal support on patient care issues to clinical staff, including custody, consent and guardianship issues.

  • ·         Legal support on payment issues, including analysis of Medicaid regulations, contracting with insurance companies, and assisting with appeals on payment denials.

  • ·         Research and legal support on various licensing and regulatory matters.

  • ·         Review, negotiation and drafting of contracts and contractual provisions in various substantive areas.

  • ·         Preparation and presentation of training materials to internal stakeholders on relevant legal issues.
